My iPod Classic is not syncing. error message says file could not be found

I have never had a problem syncing my iPod classic. Yesterday I purchased a song at the iTunes Store, and afterwards, when I synced my iPod it removed my entire content except the song I just purchased. Error message says cannot be synced because file not found. what should I do?
